Learn how to prepare delicious quesabirrias at home

Quesabirrias are a delicious fusion of two iconic dishes: quesadillas and birrias . Originally from the city of Tijuana in Mexico , quesabirrias have gained popularity around the world thanks to their unique flavor and ease of preparation. Here everything you need to know about this recipe, from its ingredients and preparation to some tips to make your quesabirrias even tastier.

Ingredients:

1 pound beef (preferably beef for birria)
1 package of flour tortillas
2 cups of grated Oaxaca cheese
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 small onion chopped
4 cups of birria broth
Cooking oil
Salt and pepper to taste


Preparation:

  1. Start by preparing the beef for birria . In a large pot, add the meat and cover with cold water. Add salt to taste and cook over medium heat for 2 hours or until meat is tender and falls apart easily.
  2. Remove the meat from the pot and let it cool. Shred the meat with a fork and reserve.
  3. In a large skillet, add a little cooking oil and heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for a few minutes until golden.
  4. Add the shredded meat to the pan and mix well with the onion. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Add the birria broth to the pan and mix well. Cook over medium heat for a few minutes until the meat is cooked through and the liquid has reduced.
  6. Prepare the quesadillas. Place a flour tortilla in a hot skillet and add a portion of grated Oaxaca cheese. Add a portion of the prepared beef and sprinkle with chopped fresh cilantro. Add another portion of grated Oaxaca cheese on top.
  7. Top the tortilla with another flour tortilla and press gently so the quesadillas come together. Cook over medium heat until golden and crisp on both sides.
  8. Serve the quesabirrias hot and enjoy them with an additional serving of birria broth for dipping.
