Death anniversary of Benito Juárez
The Death Anniversary of Benito Juárez is celebrated on July 18, because on this day, but in the year 1872, the then constitutional president of the United Mexican States died, in his rooms in the north wing of the National Palace.
At the time of his death, Benito Juárez was 66 years old and the cause of his death was a heart attack; although in recent years other things have been said that have not been able to be verified.
What there is record of is the tributes, respect and honors that were made to this great leader after his death. His corpse was taken to the great hall of the palace, where he was in a burning chamber while the people said goodbye to him.
His successor, Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada, immediately decreed national mourning. For this reason, every quarter of an hour, cannon shots were heard in honor of Benito Juárez, until the 23rd at two in the afternoon when the last one was fired at the end of the funeral of Benemérito de las Américas Benito Juárez in the San Fernando Pantheon.
At present his mortal remains are in the Panteón de San Francisco Museum, in Mexico City.
