Mother's Day history

The first record of the Mother's Day holiday comes from ancient Greece. There they had a special day to worship Rhea, the Mother God of the gods Zeus, Hades, Poseidon and Era, among others. Then the Romans adopted this festival who during the March equinox celebrated Las Hilarias; celebrations dedicated to mother earth and fertility. Later, with the arrival of Christianity in the world, this festival was preserved but it was centered on the Virgin Mary.

However, the current origin of the Mother's Day party is due to Anna Jarvis, an American journalist who felt great affection and admiration for her mother Ann Jarvis, who during and after the civil war created and organized work groups with other mothers to care for soldiers and improve public health.

Thus, after her mother Anna Jarvis died, she started a campaign to make Mother's Day an official commemoration. For this I send letters to senators, governors and celebrities with insistence. But in addition, he organized a tribute to his mother in 1908, which helped to recognize 1911 and establish Mother's Day as an official date on the calendar.

In Mexico , Mother's Day was born in 1922 at the initiative of Rafael Alducin, who ran the Excelsior newspaper, and took advantage of the medium to call the entire country to adopt Mother's Day . Proposal that was supported by the Red Cross, the Mexican Episcopate and the secretary of education José Vasconcelos.

The date of May 10 was set because at that time the salary was paid every ten days.
