Why is Lawyer's Day celebrated?
Lawyer's Day has been celebrated for 61 years, when Adolfo López Mateos, then president, declared that this important date for legal professionals would be celebrated every July 12. Thus, this anniversary has been commemorated since 1960.
The date of July 12 was chosen, because according to documents, this day the first chair for the teaching of law was established in New Spain in the year 1533. In this way, the first Ordinances of Good Government were issued.
On this same day, Bartolomé de Frías y Albornoz, read the Prima de Laws in front of several witnesses; one of the most outstanding chairs and in which Digest, Code that showed the Corpus Juris Civile, and Institute were taught, introducing the student to the fundamental principles of Roman Law.
Likewise, it has been considered that July 12 is the date on which the first chair of law was also held in Latin America. Therefore, from here we want to send a special greeting to those who watch over the laws of our beautiful and beloved Mexico.
