Origin of Geographer's Day

The Geographer's Day is celebrated every July 23 because on a day like today but in 1939, the First National Congress of Geography in Mexico is convened. Therefore, it was decided to consider that each year, on that date, a day dedicated to these professionals would be held in commemoration and memory of the opening of this event.

The First Congress of Geography was the result of the great political interest that the country had to “inventory” the natural wealth that Mexico has. In this way, geography is institutionalized in our country and institutions such as the Mexican Society of Geography and Statistics are created.

Therefore, taking advantage of the momentum and the image that was given to geography, the First Geography Congress was organized and convened; event that was divided into several lines to promote economic, humanistic and teaching knowledge of geography in Mexico.
