When is and how the Librarian's Day was born

Every July 20 , the Librarian's Day takes place on the Mexican calendar ; a special event that seeks to celebrate and honor these professionals who, with their work, facilitate access to information and, in addition, preserve documents and written information.

Next we will tell you how the Librarian's Day was born ; this important profession that is often overlooked.

Origin of the Librarian's Day in Mexico

The commemoration of Librarian's Day in Mexico was proposed by the Committee on Library and Editorial Affairs of the Chamber of Senators. Date that was finally approved and celebrated since 2004 throughout the national territory.

In our country, the first school for librarians was opened in 1916, however, classes only began to be taught 20 years later. Currently, there are eight universities that offer a degree in library science and only three of them also offer master's degrees and postgraduate studies related to this profession.

And although the task of the librarian has been modified over time, going from being guardians of the books to intermediaries between users who want to obtain information, the labor field of these professionals is very wide and is demanded by traditional, virtual libraries, institutions educational of all levels, organizations and even companies.

Therefore, from here we want to send an affectionate greeting to all the professionals who this July 20 celebrate the Librarian's Day throughout the Mexican national territory.
