How and where was Labor Day born?

Labor Day was born in the city of Chicago on May 1, 1886 . On this day, around 80 thousand workers began a strike in which they demanded fairer treatment, 8-hour working days and decent wages.

The demonstration was led by Albert Pearsons, a strike that spread to other North American cities. As a result, more than 400,000 workers stopped 5,000 simultaneous strikes. The magnitude of the conflict caused great concern to the government and the business sector who believed that in these demonstrations and strikes they saw the beginning of an anarchist revolution.

A group of trade unionists were executed in 1886, which is why they are known as the " Chicago Martyrs" and who are also honored on Labor Day. Despite this, they did not give up and thanks to the Noble Order of the Knights of Labor ; a workers' organization, the business sector was able to give in to the pressures and requests of workers throughout the country.

In our country, Labor Day was celebrated for the first time in 1913, when more than 20 thousand workers marched demanding that the government introduce the 8-hour work day.
