Below we will tell you how Teacher's Day was born in Mexico and why it is celebrated on May 15 of each year.

What is the origin of Teacher's Day in Mexico?

The history of Teacher's Day in Mexico dates back to 1917 when a group of deputies; Most former teachers sent an initiative to Congress to celebrate all education professionals in the country.

They say that this date was proposed to commemorate the taking of Querétaro in 1867 when the Mexican army managed to defeat the Second Empire of Mexico. However, the most widely accepted reason is that May 15 is the day of Saint John Baptist de La Salle ; an innovative French priest and pedagogue who devoted his life to training teachers for the education of children of artisans and poor children.

The then president, Venustiano Carranza, signed the decree and Teacher's Day was celebrated for the first time in Mexico on May 15, 1918 . Years later, in 1950, Pope Pius XIII appointed Saint John Baptist de La Salle as the patron of all the world's teachers and of those who work in relation to education.
